The Salt Water Intrusion Meeting (SWIM) is a prestigious biennial scientific conference that has been held across different countries since its inception in 1968. For decades, SWIM has been a pivotal event for scientists and experts dedicated to understanding and addressing the challenges of seawater intrusion and salinization in coastal aquifers worldwide. Tackling these issues requires multidisciplinary collaboration, drawing from chemistry, engineering, geology, geophysics, mathematics, physics, hydrology, and water resources management.

The 27th edition of SWIM, to be held from June 2–6, 2025, in Barcelona, Catalunya, embraces an ambitious vision: to integrate land and ocean approaches in the study of coastal groundwater. This year’s conference will place greater emphasis on integrating seawater intrusion (SWI) and submarine groundwater discharge (SGD).

Our aim is to foster engaging discussions that bridge diverse interfaces:

• From land to ocean, highlighting the connections between terrestrial and marine systems.
• Across spatial scales, from the pore level to the aquifer and basin scales.
• Across disciplines, bringing together hydrology, oceanography, geophysics, and engineering to explore innovative and state-of-the-art techniques onshore and offshore.

Barcelona provides the ideal setting for this exciting edition of SWIM. Nestled along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the city offers a rich maritime history, a vibrant cultural landscape, and a leading position as a hub for hydrology, ocean sciences, and coastal research.
